From Sketch to Steel: A Design Journey

Every piece starts with a line. Not a CAD file — a pencil on paper, a curve drawn by hand. The industrial aesthetic needs precision, but it also needs the irregularity that only a hand can produce. Here's how a FERROUS LAB piece goes from idea to steel.

1. Sketch. The Flow Structure Necklace began as a series of flowing lines — curves constrained within a rectangular frame. The idea: structure that breathes. A necklace that reads rigid from a distance but reveals movement up close. Steel that curves.

2. Cut. Stainless steel sheets are cut to spec. Every edge is hand-deburred — run your finger along any FERROUS LAB edge and feel nothing. No press. No mold. Each piece is cut individually.

3. Form. Curves are set by eye, not by machine. The steel is bent gradually, checked against the body, adjusted. This is where the hand wins over the factory: a machine can't feel when a curve is right, only when it matches a parameter.

4. Assemble. Micro-welds. No glue. No snap-fits. The Fracture Line Necklace uses actual rivets — visible, functional, structural. Each connection is logical and reversible. You can trace the assembly logic with your eyes.

5. Check. A human wears every piece for an hour before it ships. Not a mannequin. Not a checklist. A person. If it catches, snags, or irritates — it doesn't leave. This is the step no factory can replicate, because factories don't have bodies.
