Walk into any jewelry store and the pearls all look the same. Round. White. Identical. Strung on a thread like beads at a factory — which is exactly what they are. Cultured round pearls are grown around spherical nuclei implanted in oysters, producing near-perfect spheres on an industrial scale.

How to Judge a Baroque Pearl
- Luster, not shape. A baroque pearl should glow from within — the nacre layers are what create depth. Dull surface = thin nacre = cheap pearl.
- Surface character. Ridges and dimples are features, not flaws. But cracks, chips, or flaking nacre are damage. Know the difference.
- Setting matters. A baroque pearl needs a setting designed for it specifically, not a generic prong holder. The metal should respond to the pearl's shape, not ignore it.
- One pearl, one piece. Baroque pearls don't work in multiples. A strand of baroque pearls is noise — each one fighting for attention. A single pearl as the focal point is a statement.
